Major Connery is the head of Section I Intelligence in the Imperial Army. A rather unpleasant and cold-hearted man, he seems to know a great deal about what is going on in the Imperial Army - and the Invisible 9, much like Captain Hunks.
It was because Mercury had bitten Connery on the head in Episode 1 that the dog had been demoted, and whenever State Section III is involved in activities that might involve the Invisible 9, he always demands Hunks have them back off. Of course, he always relents and gives... rather veiled details on what is going on.
